A Step in the Right Direction

Thanks to your calls, e-mails and petition signatures, on July 16, the U.S. Senate brokered a deal to allow votes on some long-stalled executive nominations, including the nominees to the National Labor Relations Board.

As a part of the deal, President Obama withdrew two contested NLRB appointees and nominated two new candidates in their place. The two new nominees, Kent Hirozawa, who served as chief counsel to the National Labor Relations Board chairman, and Nancy Schiffer, former associate general counsel at the AFL-CIO, were confirmed by the Senate on July 30, 2013 and will be strong advocates for workers’ rights.
